The prosecutor’s office in the Italian city of Siena has requested a prison sentence of four years and two months for the former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi who is on trial for alleged witness tampering and bribery.
The case is one of several to stem from allegations that Berlusconi had sex with a prostitute nicknamed Ruby the Heartstealer, the stage name of underage Moroccan nightclub dancer Karima El Mahrougone, at one his infamous bunga-bunga parties.
Berlusconi is accused of having paid a pianist from in Siena, Danilo Mariani, to give false testimony concerning the “bunga-bunga” evenings in which he participated as a musician. The prosecution has requested a sentence of four years and six months for Danilo Mariani.
That case revolves around two confidants of Berlusconi who allegedly brought in young prostitutes for his entertainment. The two men were sentenced to prison sentences of 4 years and 7 months and 2 years and 10 months.
The Forza Italia leader was initially convicted for the sex parties in 2013 but was acquitted two years later after appealing the verdict – the court having decided in Berlusconi’s favour that he did not know then that Ruby was only 17 years old.
Nevertheless, Berlusconi is accused of persuading several witnesses with money, jewellery and goods worth millions of euros to remain silent about the parties in court. The media mogul is also being prosecuted in Milan, Rome and Turin for similar cases.
According to prosecutors, Berlusconi spent ten million euros to silence witnesses between 2011 and 2015, seven million of which went to Ruby alone.
